Case Studies

Many of our Consulting interventions deal with situations that have a high emotional charge and where the positions of the parties concerned are apparently intractable and entrenched.  In these mediation/dispute resolution situations, one of the most powerful and effective methodologies is the Conflict Code Breaker  model created by Ian Ross.  Full details of the tool can be found here

This section describes a brief summary of the presenting issues, context and any necessary background information on three specific cases to which the Conflict Code Breaker Model has been applied. In each situation the model was used to create additional insights and choices for action for at least one of the parties, resulting in a demonstrable improvement in the eventual outcome.  The time taken for the interventions ranged from 3 hours to 3 days.

  • Case Study 1: Corporate HR issue, involving reinstatement of an employee. This case was a mediation between an employee due to be reinstated (but who does not want to be there) by a line manager who does not want him back. This situation arose from the findings of an internal enquiry into an unfair dismissal case. Read more…
  • Case Study 2: HIV/Aids Education Initiative, Namibia. A group of remote communities are refusing to allow any form of HIV/Aids awareness campaign, despite a very high infection rate and the knowledge that failure to introduce this type of programme will lead to the unsustainability of the population.  Read more…
  • Case Study 3: Integration of Two Companies. Two organisations with similar product portfolios but very different cultures are to be merged in a new office building – the idea sounded fine but had not been well received by at least one of the parties.  The newly appointed MD of a company created from the two previously separate and successful operations had approved a floor plan in the new building that placed staff from the two companies on two different floors.
